Skeletonized watches have been quite revered over the years. They show us the true guts of the watch and make us understand how the watch comes to life. Traditionally they have been shown in precious metals like Platinum, Rose, Yellow and White Gold. Normally when complications are added whether it be Tourbillions, Perpetual Calenders, or Minute Repeaters, curiosity and understanding is achieved at the same time and becomes a lot more interesting for the true watch aficionado.
Now after 20 years of business, Krieger Watch known for their tide watches, has found a way to expose the skeleton for every day use. The new Krieger Gigantium Skeleton in black PVD is an absolute Rock Star. It combines the elements of what makes a watch absolutely stunning with making the movement transparent to look at on side and achieves a very masculine aesthetic with the black PVD case.
The watch is 43 mm, made out of black pvd, mechanical hand wound Swiss Movement, Blue Luminescent Hands play off the black case with incredible contrast, while the skeletonization of the movement makes this watch look quite industrial and technical, while the big penis crown shocks, offends, and winds the watch for a full 44 hours. Even though the movement is a basic eta 2892 modified movement, the anti reflective coated scratch resistant crystal front and back makes it easy to look at the craftsmanship of the movement at a glance, and of course being known as a water watch historically the watch is water resistant to 165 feet.
Once again the watch is a little too small for my liking, but the beauty of interchanging straps in any variety effortlessly makes this an easy purchase and ensures versatility, although this watch looks best on black croco or black calf strap.
As much as Krieger is a brand that I would never normally wear, and like Jacob and Co. they are perceived as gratuitous bling for posers and wannabes there is no other brand out there that has the balls to come out with a Black Skeleton like this!
